Watch Out For “Satisfaction Guaranteed” Home Based Opportunities

by WorkFromHome on March 13, 2012

When you began your search for a home based opportunity were you tempted to make a purchase of a program that sounded great and offered a money back guarantee? If you said “yes” you are just like everyone else who has begun their search for a work at home position.

Scam artists prey on people that desire to work from home. These scammers know that there is an emotional connection between working from home and working outside of the home, and they take advantage of those emotions.

They fill their websites with soothing words, building your confidence. They post “testimonials” from people who have used their programs and have become wealthy in a short period of time. They convince you that there is no experience necessary to become successful, and this small investment is just the price you must pay for independent wealth. Finally, by the time they almost have you convinced, they tell you they are so positive that you will be successful that they offer a 100% money back guarantee.

At that point most people hit the button to buy. Sadly, those people have been scammed.

The scam artist’s biggest goal is to secure as many sales as possible in the shortest period of time and then kill the website, leaving their money back guarantee useless. The sad point is after they remove their site from the web, they post a similar one the next day with a different name, beginning the scam again.

What Are The Legitimate Opportunities On The Internet?

When you begin your search for work at home opportunities, those opportunities will usually fall under four categories:

  1. Telecommuting Jobs: Many employers are hiring remote workers to reduce their office expenses. These positions may include office assistants, data entry, customer service, or help desk employees. Employers from every industry have begun hiring telecommuters. You can find these positions by accessing job search sites or applying directly for the position through the human resource departments. Telecommuter positions are exactly like office positions. You will be required to submit a CV, you will go through an interview process and you will need to work specified hours. There is never any cost associated with finding a telecommuter position.
  2. Freelance Work: The freelance industry has exploded over the last decade, and continues to grow at an exponential rate. Professionals from all types of back grounds have discovered they can earn a very good living proving their services to individuals or business on an as-needed basis. Freelance positions can be found on one of the many freelance job boards. Some boards require a membership fee, but this should not be confused with any scam fee. Most boards will allow you to try their services for free or bid on a few jobs per month without enrolment. Freelance work can range from office assistant to web designer to consulting positions, and everything in between. There is a little money involved with this type of business, but it is very nominal.
  3. Affiliate Marketing: Affiliate marketing has become very popular for work at home professionals because it is a very low-cost way to earn a lot of money. Affiliate marketing consists of signing up for with an affiliate program, all are free, selecting products or services to promote, and promoting them through various means. Any sales made from the efforts of the affiliate marketer results in a commission being paid. Some companies will even pay a commission for just sending potential customers to their sites. There is no experience necessary to become an affiliate marketer, and any money you invest into marketing would be at your sole discretion. Thankfully, there are many ways to promote a product for free on the Internet, so a large marketing budget is not necessary.
  4. Home Based Business: The final Internet opportunity is a home based business. You may decide to invest into a product line, promote your own goods or services, or expand on a business set up that is already on the market. This type of business will require an investment, and the amount of that investment will depend on the type of business that you start. Again, this investment will be at your discretion, and not a result of someone trying to convince you that it is the right move to make.

The best thing to remember is that when you are searching for an Internet opportunity; use your head and not your heart. Yes, the desire to work from home, to have that independence, to spend more time with family and friends is very great. Use that to your advantage, and direct your efforts into finding legitimate opportunities.

If you have already been a victim of a scam, don’t worry. We have all fallen for it at one time or another. Do not let this distract you from your goal to work from home. Chalk it up as a “live and learn” experience and move forward.
